Newman tops Lake Mills for NIC lead

In a matchup of the two undefeated teams in the North Iowa Conference, Newman Catholic used a strong second and fourth quarter to get past Lake Mills 75-56 Friday in Lake Mills.
The Knights (10-0, 6-0 NIC), ranked third in Class A in Iowa, recovered from a three-point first quarter deficit to take a two-point halftime lead and outscored the Bulldogs (8-2, 5-1 NIC) 35-13 in the fourth quarter.
Lake Mills held Newman to eight points in the third quarter to build a 43-40 lead but the Knights’ depth carried them to victory.
Olivia Olson led Newman with 20 points while Morgan Dornbier added 14. Haley Messmore, Lauren Hedrick and Jessica Balek all scored 10 points each.
Amanda Lampman led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Lindy Pins scored 13, and Morgan Fjelstad and Jade Durnil each had 12.
Lake Mills plays West Hancock Saturday in Lake Mills.
