Northern Michigan beats Minnesota 4-2

Ray Kaunisto scored twice and Brian Stewart made 48 saves as Northern Michigan beat Minnesota 4-2 Sunday in the title game at the Dodge Holiday Classic men’s hockey tournament.

Kaunisto scored midway through the second period to give Northern Michigan (9-8-4) its first lead at 2-1. He then scored the game-winner at 19:47 of the second period.

Greger Hanson and T.J. Miller had a goal and an assist apiece for Northern Michigan, which was outshot 50-23 by the Golden Gophers (9-10-1).
