Some large Minnesota school districts face financial penalties if they don’t reach agreement on teacher contracts before a state deadline.
Education Minnesota, the state teachers union, said 29 locals had not settled their two-year contracts as of 5:30 p.m. Friday. Districts that don’t reach a deal with their teachers — and have the union membership ratify it — before midnight Friday face a state penalty of $25 per student.
Minneapolis, Edina, St. Cloud and Brainerd were among districts that had not settled their teacher contracts by Friday evening.
The Minneapolis Public Schools announced Friday they could not reach agreement with the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers before the state deadline.
