Nicky Becher hit two shots from the field Friday for the Winona girls’ basketball team against Albert Lea in Winona, one of them happened to be the biggest shot of the game in a 53-51 overtime victory over the Tigers.
Becher hit a turnaround jumper from the elbow as time expired in overtime as the Winhawks handed the reeling Tigers their fourth loss in five games.
Albert Lea led the overtime period early and went up by four before Winona rallied for the victory.
Megan Lueck paced the Winhawks with 25 points, including four 3-pointers and was the only Winona player in double figures.
Morgan Stadheim scored 18 points for the Tigers (7-9, 5-5 Big Nine) and Abbey Arends scored 13 in the loss.
“At different times in the game we just needed to be more consistent,” said Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam.
The Tigers committed 14 turnovers and were outrebounded by the Winhawks.
Albert Lea plays Rochester Century Monday in Rochester.
