Woman injured in Oakland house fire

A house in the southern part of Oakland Township received extensive smoke and heat damage Thursday morning after a reported fire.

According to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office news release, at about 11:34 a.m. Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire at 18067 860th Ave., Austin, the home of Bob and Jodi Vanpelt.

The Myrtle Fire Department, aided by the Glenville and Hayward fire departments responded. The Albert Lea Fire Investigation Team was later called in.

Jodi Vanpelt was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious in nature at this time, according to the release.

The Freeborn County American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
