The Democratic-controlled Senate has passed a $1 billion construction projects bill, ignoring Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s veto threat.

The bonding bill passed on a 52-14 vote on Tuesday.

The legislation would funnel money to state university buildings, civic centers and outdoor projects. But it left out to expand the state sex offender treatment program, one of Pawlenty’s priorities.

Pawlenty repeated his threat to reject the entire package on Tuesday, saying the bill is “misprioritized.” He is urging legislators to scrap the proposal and start over.

The bill still has a way to go before landing on his desk. The House version is slated for a vote on Monday as Democrats push to get a final bill to Pawlenty this month.
