Are they using Bible to justify wrong?

Last month, I wrote a letter to the editor about Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s decision to allow homosexuals to become ordained ministers. After hearing many negative comments on my thoughts, I’d like to correct some misconceptions.

Many are saying that I am calling everyone who disagrees with me a “hater.” This is not true. I am just trying to state that discrimination of any kind IS hate. Also, some are saying that I, and I quote here, “obviously know nothing about the word of God.” I attended church, have been confirmed, have gone to Sunday School, have taught Sunday School, attended a Christian school, am a member of one of my church’s committee, and my grandfather is a Lutheran pastor, so I have a better-than-average chance of knowing something about God’s word. I know that one message resounds again and again in the Bible: LOVE. The Bible states over and over that love is the greatest gift from God, and that in no way could it harm the Earth.

So why would that same God tell you loving someone is wrong? Am I the only one who sees the contradiction? Please tell how me what these people are doing is any different than others using the Bible to justify their discriminations?
