The Lake Mills school district has started an investigation concerning the actions of its girls’ varsity basketball coach.

Mark VanGorkom is under investigation after allegations VanGorkom sent an inappropriate text message to a player on the team.

Lake Mills Community School Superintendent Daryl Sherman confirmed the school is investigating the matter but could not provide further information on the situation.

VanGorkom has not been at school since last Thursday.

VanGorkom, 31, graduated from Lake Mills in 1997 and started teaching there seven years ago. VanGorkom graduated from Wartburg College in 2001 and previously taught at West Burlington in Iowa.

VanGorkom also coaches cross country and track.
