Kate Hartman scored a game-high 21 points and Britney Low scored 13 points as Northwood-Kensett defeated Riceville 57-42 in the opening round of the Class 1A, Region 2 playoffs on Thursday night in Northwood.

The Vikings (15-7, 10-4 Corn Bowl) broke a 23-23 tie at halftime in the second half and outscored the Wildcats (4-17, 4-10 Corn Bowl) 32-19 in the final two quarters to get the victory.

Northwood-Kensett will be in action Tuesday as it travels to Mason City to play 10th-ranked Newman Catholic.
