Sarah Doppelhammer, 96

The funeral service for Sarah Martha Doppelhammer of St. John’s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, (formerly of Conger) will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Conger. The Rev. Gary Hanson will officiate. Interment will be in the Conger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
Sarah died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 96 years old.
Sarah was born April 20, 1913, in Mansfield Township to John and Bertha (Stiebler) Wacholz. She married Vernon Doppelhammer on July 10, 1935, at Mansfield Lutheran Church. After their marriage, they became lifetime residents of Conger. Sarah was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Conger and was active in church ladies groups. She also served as custodian of the church for many years. Sarah belonged to the Conger Ladies Park Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening both vegetable and flowers, making pickles, embroidering and making rag rugs.
Sarah is survived by sons: Richard Doppelhammer of Albert Lea and Roger Doppelhammer of Ely; daughter, Mary (Jerry) Reyerson of Alden; grandchildren: Lisa (Perry) Erickson, John (Annette) Doppelhammer, Neil Doppelhammer, Karla (Darren) Visser, Sheila (Shawn) Riebe and Jayne (Shawn) Linn; great-grandchildren: Jessica (Nick) Bremer, Jon Erickson, Barbara Erickson, Jack Doppelhammer, Rachel Doppelhammer, William Doppelhammer, Ande Visser, Sarah Visser, Kaylin Visser, Annika Riebe, Ella Riebe, and Renae Linn; great-great-granddaughter, Ava Bremer; sisters: Esther Doppelhammer and Erma Leland; many nieces and nephews.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents: John and Bertha Wacholz; husband, Vernon Doppelhammer; brothers: Ervin, Harry, Alfred, Henry, Frank, Manville and Maynard; sister, Frieda, in infancy; daughter-n-laws: Barbara Doppelhammer and Pauletta Doppelhammer.
