A snowstorm has left its mark on a winter-weary region this morning. Some schools announced they would delay classes. Some then canceled. Others planned to dismiss early. Snowplow operators were clearing streets and highways. And a winter storm warning remained in effect for the day.
United South Central, Blue Earth, Maple River, Northwood-Kensett and Lake Mills in Iowa and and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva canceled classes for today.
Albert Lea planned to dismiss classes at noon today. Alden-Conger gets out at 10 a.m.
The free program, “Your activities and diabetes: Are they related?” scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, Feb. 8, at HealthReach, has been cancelled. Any questions should be directed to Albert Lea Medical Center’s Health Information Center at 507-379-2046.
Snowfall totals across the region as of 7 a.m. have ranged from 2 to 5 inches. Additional accumulation is forecast for the day. The National Weather Service predicts up to 11 total inches for this area.
The winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until noon Tuesday.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation lists all the driving conditions in southern Minnesota as “difficult.” Interstate 35 and Interstate 90 in the Albert Lea area have blowing snow, plowed snow and patches of ice.
