Vernon Ardell Braund, 82, of Walters, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the United Lutheran Church in Walters. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery, rural Walters.
Vernon A. Braund was born Feb. 1, 1928, the son of Chester and Alpha (Thorson) Braund in Mount Valley Township, Iowa. Vernon was baptized at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, Iowa, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended school at Sharps Corner through the eighth grade. On Oct. 30, 1939, he was united in marriage to Bonita Storms. He farmed with his father for several years. Vernon was a semi truck driver and drove across the United States for many years. Vern’s love for his family was so great–he often called to tell his family to tune into a Nashville radio station to listen to his special requests. Vernon later worked in Albert Lea as a mechanic and rebuilding semi trailers. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons. Traveling as far as Wyoming, Montana, and the Black Hills. He enjoyed dancing to old time music-especially polkas, watching football and western movies.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of Walters; one son, Zane (Janelle) Braund of Braham; four daughters: Renee (Jim) Muller of Algona, Iowa, Cindy (Steve) Halvorsen of Mansfield, Dawn (Martin) Kasemir of Germany, Tracey (Lonnie) Huston of Kiester; two sisters: Jean (Wayne) Ellertson of Charles City, Iowa, Lynn (John) Wirkkala of Westminster, Colo.; one brother: Keith (Alice) Braund of Emmons; 19 grandchildren: Casey (Kim) Muller, Cody, Wyatt, and Blake Muller; Jennifer (Lance) Christensen, Jill (Aaron) Thursdale, Randy (Amber) Halvorsen, Daniel (Danielle) Halvorsen; Zachary, Cameron, Danielle, Randy and Stephanie Braund; Lucas Huston, Christopher Braund, Timothy (Krystal) Braund, Joe (Brittany) Braund, Amanda and Garrett Braund; and many great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Robert Harig and Roger Oldfather; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Chester and Alpha; in-laws: August and Olga Buntrock; two sons: Randy and Vern; one granddaughter, Stacey Halvorsen; two sisters: LaVonne Oldfather and Marlys Harig.
He was so very loved by all of his family, and will be missed by many family and friends.
