Alton Rice

Funeral services for Alton Julian Rice, 95, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Alton died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.
Alton Julian Rice was born on April 5, 1914, to Carl and Eda (Stensrud) Rice in Hartland Township. He was a life-long member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland where he served on the church council. Alton married Charlotte Josephine Johnson at the Cross of Glory Lutheran Church on June 23, 1942. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last June. Alton farmed his whole life in the Hartland and Manchester vicinity. He enjoyed playing his accordion at the rest homes and at local festivities. Alton was a member of the Hartland and Albert Lea Senior Citizens. After retiring from farming, Alton enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and taking care of the lawn and yard on the farm.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Barbara Olson and her husband, Kenneth of Beloit, Wis., grandson, Mark Olson and his wife, Bridget; great-grandson, Aric Olson; great-granddaughter, Alexys Olson all of Orfordville, Wis.; brother and sisters-in-law, Donald and Louise Johnson and Helen Bendixen; several nieces and nephews.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Oscar and Mabel Johnson; and brother-in-law, Marshall Bendixen.
