April is Child Abuse Prevention month and Sexual Assault Awareness month. In addition, the week of April 18 through 24 is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. During this month, the Freeborn County Crime Victim’s Crisis Center is working to raise awareness about child abuse, sexual assault and victims’ rights.
This year’s national theme is “Crime Victims’ Rights: Fairness. Dignity. Respect.”
The Crime Victim’s Crisis Center is encouraging Freeborn County youth to participate in its annual art contest. The contest promotes the goal of the CVCC to raise awareness and educate the community about crime victimization and resources available to crime victims.
Preschool children (3-4-year-olds) through 12th grade youth that live in Freeborn County are eligible to enter. Only one entry per student is allowed.
One category is for preschool children through first-graders, who will complete a coloring page.
A second category is for kindergartners through second-graders, who will also complete a coloring page.
Coloring pages can be obtained by calling the CVCC office at 377-5460.
A third category is for third through sixth graders, who will create an 8 1/2-by-11-inch poster.
A fourth category is for seventh through eighth graders, who will create an 8 1/2-by-11-inch poster.
A fifth category is for ninth through twelth-grade students, who will create an 8 1/2-by-11-inch poster.
Posters must be based on the “Crime Victim’s Rights: Fairness. Dignity. Respect.”
Each entry must be the original work of the student or team of students submitting the artwork. It may not contain copyrighted material, such as popular songs, magazine cutouts, music videos, etc., unless permission has been granted for its use. Use of copyrighted material without permission automatically disqualifies the entry.
No signatures or initials may appear on the front of the artwork. Inclusion of such items could result in disqualification.
Attach entry form to the back of artwork.
Artwork will be judged after April 5. The first and second-place winners of each category will be recognized with prizes and certificates at the Freeborn County Proclamation of Crime Victims’ Rights Week on April 19.
