Donald Larson, 71

Funeral services for Donald Earl Larson, 71, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Bromeland will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors accorded by Freeborn County veterans organizations. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Don died Wednesday evening, March 17, 2010, at his home, his family at his side.
Donald Earl Larson was born on March 31, 1938, to Eric and Bernice (Prosser) Larson in Albert Lea. He attended Albert Lea High School. Don served in the United States Marines from 1955 to 1958. Don was united in marriage to Eileen Gloria Overland at Round Prairie Lutheran Church on April 4, 1959, and they had two daughters. Don worked for Montgomery Ward, Drug Supply and Quality Foods. He then studied drafting through the Manpower training program. After completing the course he worked at Streater, also at Jones, Haugh and Smith Engineering and retired after working 23 years at the City of Albert Lea Engineering Department. Don had a strong work ethic and always gave 100 percent to whatever job he was doing. Don was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and had been the chairman of the trustees. He also was active in Bible Study, ushering and whatever he could help out with at the church and United Preschool. Don also volunteered at Loaves and Fishes. He was a member of the Eagles and was a life member of the Elks. Don enjoyed going for walks on the Blazing Star Trail with his wife, the ACT Plays, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, golfing with his buddies, raising a large vegetable garden, growing and sharing his beautiful roses and vacations to Branson, Mo., and Duluth. 
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; daughters: Lori Ann (Scott) Hegwood of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jody Lynn (Chris) Armbrust of Oronoco; grandchildren: Cassie, Corrie and Colton Hegwood and Kevin Armbrust; sister, Shirley (Lynn) Amundson of Coon Rapids; brother, Blair Larson of Blaine; half sister, Janice (Burt) Chambers of Oregon; sisters-in-law: Gwen Lee and Olive (Vernon) Schroeder; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, David Amundson; and brother-in-law, Bernard Lee.
Don was a kind, giving person and will be deeply missed by all who cherish his memory.
Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church.
