Dorothy Mae Drugg, 87, of Wells, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Wells. The Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.
Dorothy was born Jan. 20, 1923 in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Rush and Emma (Davis) Gabrielson. On Feb. 16, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart John Drugg in Forest City, Iowa. She graduated from Forest City High School and Waldorf College. She received her RN degree from the Mercy Nursing Program in Sioux City, Iowa. After they were married, John and Dorothy lived in Hicksville, Ohio, and Buffalo Center, Iowa, before settling in Wells. While in Wells, John taught and coached and Dorothy worked at the Wells Municipal Hospital, first as an registered nurse, then director of nurses and as assistant administrator until her retirement at age 62. Dorothy loved working with plants and flowers, playing bridge, hardanger and baking. She enjoyed nature-especially bird watching. After retirement Dorothy and John wintered in Florida.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Gary (wife Diane) Drugg of Rochester, Sally Schultz (special friend Garry Matthies) of Wells, Dan (wife Trudy) Drugg of Wells; nine grandchildren: Javan (wife Jessica) Drugg, Tyson Drugg, Kane (wife Trinity) Drugg, Brianna Drugg, Tim (wife Kristi) Schultz, Jay Schultz, Kimberly Schultz, Dani Drugg, and Leslie Drugg; four great-grandchildren: Kyron Drugg, Carter Schultz, Brea Schultz, and Rylan Schultz; a sister, Marjorie (husband Bradner) Littlehale of Chatham, N.J.; a sister-in-law Eileen (husband Albert) Meyer of Albert City, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1990; her parents; brother, Robert Gabrielson; sisters-in-law: Marie (husband Gordon) Levad and Margaret (husband Melvin) Brighton.
