John Alvarado

The funeral service for John B. Alvarado of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea area veterans groups.
John died Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Fla. He was 83 years old.
John was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Lorenzo and Elvira (Cisneros) Alvarado. He married Patricia Cervantes on Oct. 26, 1948. She died in 2003. He married Teresa Hernandez on June 12, 2004. John attended the Delavan and Easton area schools. He lived in Easton and Albert Lea and wintered in Florida. John was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. John worked for Albert Lea Electroplating for many years. John belonged to the Elks and the Eagles. He enjoyed reading, walking, bowling and dancing.
John is survived by his wife, Teresa, of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughters: Patty Kristin Leibinger, Rochester, and Marlene Baseman and her husband Daryll of Albert Lea; stepson, Richard Hernandez and his wife Jodi of Tallahassee, Fla.; stepdaughter, Debra Amesque of Madison, Wis.; nephew, Michael Cervantes and his wife Marylynn of Fairmont; nephew, Dan and his wife Louell Gari of California; granddaughters: Valerie Moehlenbrock and her husband Mark of Hopkins and Allison Baseman of Rochester; sister, Alberta Guerra of Albert Lea; nephew, Ryan Guerra of Albert Lea; niece, Marina Gillard and her husband Jack of Glenville; and two brothers-in-law; Bernard Zambrano of Minneapolis and Jason Cervantes of Golden Valley.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Elvira; first wife, Patricia Alvarado; and sisters, Consuelo Ramirez and Shirley Alvarado.
