Funeral services for Richard Henry Sorensen, 88, of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery with Military honors accorded by Freeborn County veteran’s organizations. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Richard died Friday, March 26, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Richard Henry Sorensen was born June 2, 1921, to Soren J. and Fannie (Petersen) Sorensen at Arnott Dairy in Albert Lea. Richard was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1921 and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1935. He attended Clarks Grove School and graduated the eighth grade in 1935. On July 2, 1949, Richard was united in marriage with Ruth Reindal at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Richard worked for Sorensen Bros. Inc. beginning in 1938. Over the years he served as president, treasurer and chairman. Richard served as a sergeant in the United States Army from Aug. 20, 1942, to October 1945 in the Transportation Core. He was a very active past member of the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota, where he was state president from 1973-1974 and Associated General Contractors of America serving on many committees. Richard was also a member of Chamber of Commerce, Naeve Hospital Foundation, First Bank, Kiwanis, Kiwanis International Foundation, Danish Brotherhood, St. John’s Lutheran Home, St. John’s Lutheran Home Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of VFW and many other organizations.
Survivors include his daughter, Roxanne (Dennis) Wadding; son, R. Randy (Julie) Sorensen; grandchildren: Jon Wadding, Jay (Amy) Wadding, Caleb (Stacey) Sorensen, and Chris Sorensen; great-grandson, Hunter Sorensen; sister, Marion Hansen; sister-in-law, Orva Sorensen; brother-in-law, Ralph Reindal; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; a daughter in infancy; brother, Phillip Sorensen; brother-in-law, Harlan Reindal; sister-in-law, Valborg Jensen.
