Shirley A. Anderson, 68, of Bricelyn, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Parkview Nursing Home, Wells.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturdayat North Blue Earth Lutheran Church, rural Bricelyn, with the Rev. Patricia Hinkie and the Rev. Stephen Bohling officiating. Visitation time will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th St.,Blue Earth, and one hour prior to services at the church. Shirley was born June 23, 1941, in rural Faribault County, the daughter of Alvin and Sophia (Mohr) Brandsoy.
She was raised and educated in Frost where she was a 1959 graduate of Frost High School. Following high school she attended Fairview School of Nursing. She married Gene R. Anderson on Sept. 23, 1961, at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church. Shirley continued her education at Naeve Hospital School of Nursing in Albert Lea earning her registered nursing certificate in 1965. Shirley began working at the Wells Hospital in 1965 and continued there until it closed in the early 1980s where she served as a registered nurse and as director of nursing. The couple farmed near Bricelyn for many years while Shirley worked at the hospital. Later she worked as a Home Health Nurse and then at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth as assistant director of nursing. She retired in 2006 from St. Luke’s. Shirley has been an active member of North Blue Earth Lutheran Church for her entire life. She loved gardening, was a great cook, and enjoyed all types of family gatherings. Shirley was a humanitarian in the truest sense of the word.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Gene Anderson of Bricelyn; her son, Darren Anderson of Bricelyn; her daughter, Christine (Tim) Kuehl of Reinbeck, Iowa; her son, Daniel (Amy) Anderson of Mankato; her sister, JoAnn (Eldo)Ovrebo of Wells; her brother, Earl (Barb) Brandsoy of Mesa, Ariz.; her sister, Mary (Russell) Erichsrud of Blue Earth; her brother, Dale (Portia) Brandsoy of Blue Earth; her sister, Judy (Gary) Underdahl of Elmore; her sister, Carol (Jim) Schroeder of Alden. She was the loving grandmother of seven grandchildren: Nicholas Anderson, Callie, Brady, and Saari Kuehl, Isabel, Olivia, and Griffin Anderson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Brandsoy; and her stepfather, Arthur Yost.
