University of Minnesota faculty have agreed to a temporary pay cut of about 1 percent to help deal with rising costs and Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s budget cuts.
The faculty’s pay cut is part of President Robert Bruininks’ plan to reduce the pay of all university employees in order to save about $28 million.
Bruininks asked the Faculty Senate Thursday to be part of the solution to “a $132 million (budget) problem.” The Senate voted 130-26 in favor of the plan.
Hourly employees will reduce their pay about 1 percent by taking three days of unpaid leave during which the campus will be shut down to reduce facilities’ costs.
