If the past is any indicator of the future for the Glenville-Emmons baseball team then the Wolverines look to be in fine shape.

Glenville-Emmons won the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Invitational Saturday with a 14-3, five-inning victory over Nicollet in the championship game to claim the title for the first time since the 2004 season when the Wolverines went 17-3.

“Obviously it’s nice to win, but it’s nice to just play well and reward the kids for playing well,” said Glenville-Emmons coach Louie Toulouse. “It was a total team effort.”

After a 2-0 victory over Faribault Academies in the opening round and tallying just four hits, the Wolverines got their bats going quickly against the Raiders.

Glenville-Emmons (4-0) put up four runs in each of the first two innings and added a five-run fifth. The Wolverines tallied 10-plus hits for the second time in three games.

“It seemed like once we got on a roll it was kind of contagious and everyone seemed to be getting some hits and putting the ball in play,” Toulouse said. “That was really nice to see because we really haven’t hit the ball exceptionally well in a lot of games this year.”

Spencer Kral got the victory on the mound. Kral gave up three runs on five hits in four innings of work.

NRHEG lost 3-2 in the first round to Nicollet after the Panthers gave up a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but went on to finish third with an 8-1 victory over Faribault Academies.

The Wolverines play Monday against Houston in Houston.
