Helping people perform activities they haven’t been able to do because of physical difficulties is the goal of the new chiropractor in town.

“I had a patient who hadn’t bowled in two years, and he just started bowling again,” Dr. Matt Tubbs said.

Tubbs said when he started working with that patient it was a long-term goal that someday he might bowl again. Tubbs said it was his favorite success story, because the patient never believed he’d be able to bowl.

“We’re a very safe, natural way to approach health,” Tubbs said. “We work with our hands.”

Tubbs went to school at the University of North Dakota and then to chiropractic school at the Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington. He and his wife, Brie, are originally from Albert Lea and are excited to be back.

“We wanted to be close to family,” Tubbs said. “We’re excited to be back in the community.”

Tubbs held an open house at his office on Clark Street on Wednesday. The building used to be City Fruit Market from 1960 to 1981. Tubbs will be holding workshops that are open to the communtiy. The workshops will have different wellness themes so people can go learn and talk about how to improve their lives.

Tubbs interned at Caron Chiropractic in St. Paul and at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. He has certain techniques he specializes in like the Graston Soft Tissue Technique.

“It’s to break down scar tissue and treat soft tissue injuries,” Tubbs said.

He also does Kinesio Taping, which is a tape to support muscles and decrease inflammation. Tubbs’ main focus is to help people be active again and live their best life.

“You don’t have to live in pain,” Tubbs said. “We want to help you do the things you love.”

Tubbs has been advertising his new business and trying to let people know he’s part of the community. Though there are other chiropractors in town, he says he’s not in competition with them.

“It’s not a competition,” Tubbs said. “It’s about treating people well and getting results.”

Tubbs said he is looking forward to working with other chiropractors and people from the medical community.

“We all work together to ensure that each patient gets the care they need,” Tubbs said.

Tubbs’ practice has been open for two months. He and his wife, Brie, live in Albert Lea. Brie is interning as a physician’s assistant, and they have been married for two and a half years.

Tubbs said he has helpful mentors from his previous experience. He also does continuing education, which is an opportunity to learn new techniques and better ways to help people.
