Funeral services for John D. Bothum of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Area veterans groups.
Mr. Bothum died Monday evening at the Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. He was 78 years of age.
John was born March 23, 1932, in Minneapolis, the son of Leroy and Arbutis (Pihl) Bothum. He was a graduate of Omaha North High School and attended college in Omaha and Lincoln, Neb.
On July 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Donna Prawl in Omaha. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
John was the owner operator of Enderes Inc. in Albert Lea.
John spent his early years in Omaha, Neb., and lived in North Carolina for several years. He has been a resident of Albert Lea for the past 54 years. He was past President of the Kiwanis Club, past President of the Albert Lea Chamber of Commerce, past President of Toastmasters, served on the board for Jobs Inc., the Freeborn Bank, 1st Federal Savings and Loan, and was a trustee for the Lea College. He received an award as the Outstanding Young Businessman of the Year.
John enjoyed playing golf, biking, walking, fishing and anything the grandkids were involved with. He could always be found tinkering around the house.
John is survived by his wife Donna of Albert Lea; children: Mark and his wife Peggy of Garden City, S.C., and his children Larissa (fiancé Tony), Luke and his child Jackson, and Nancy and her husband Todd Dahl of Burnsville, and their children Tyler, Brandon and Brett. One sister, Susan (Dick) Hewitt of Red Wing, also survives.
John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
