Luther Collegiate Chorale to perform Sunday

The 85-voice Luther College Collegiate Chorale from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, will present a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church, 918 Garfield Ave., Albert Lea. The concert is free and open to the public.

An offering will be taken to help defray the choir’s travel expenses.

The Collegiate Chorale is composed of select junior and senior singers. The choir features mixed voices performing sacred choral works of a variety of periods and styles. Collegiate Chorale also sings at daily chapel and Sunday worship services on campus, takes part in the college’s annual Christmas At Luther celebration and tours annually.

In recent years, the Collegiate Chorale has performed in concert with the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, New York City, and with the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and La Crosse (Wisconsin) symphony orchestras. The choir recently appeared in concert with The Philadelphia Brass, premiering a newly commissioned work, “The Creation of the World,” by American composer Daniel Pinkham. In March of 2004, the choir performed at the American Choral Directors Association Convention in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Collegiate Chorale is conducted by Timothy Peter.

Albert Lea natives Alexandra Larson and Isaac Wiese are among the 85 youth choristers.

Friday, April 23

The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, April 24

The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Northbridge Mall will host a K-9 demonstration at 1 p.m. The demonstration lasts 90 minutes.

First Presbyterian Church’s Women’s Ministry, the Wild Olives, will present “Raggedy Ann in a Barbie Doll World” at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Susanne Scheppmann of Proverbs 31 Ministries will present the program. Tickest are $10 per person and can be purchased at First Presbyterian Church or at Cup of Faith. Dessert and coffee will be served.

Sunday, April 25

Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge 52 will host a Norwegian rolled pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge near City Arena. Rolled pancakes, ham, potatoes, eggs, lingonberries, coffee, juice and milk will be served. Cost is $6 for adults. Children 5 years and younger eat free.

American Legion Post 56, 142 N. Broadway Ave., will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults. Children 6 years and younger eat free.

The Albert Lea Cantori will present its annual spring concert at 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. The Cantori is celebrating the 30th year under the direction of Eileen Nelson Ness. The concert is open to the public and an offering will be taken. A reception will follow.
