Nine errors spoiled an otherwise stellar start from United South Central senior starter Nick Fure Thursday in the Rebels’ 8-7 loss to Blooming Prairie in Blooming Prairie.
Fure gave up four hits and two earned runs while striking out five in six innings of work, but USC failed to play defense behind him and it added up to the Rebels’ first loss of the season.
USC (3-1, 2-1 Gopher) held a 7-1 advantage after the top of the fourth, but the Blossoms (3-3) scored six runs in the fourth to tie the game and won it in the fifth.
The Rebels made four errors in the fourth and outhit Blooming Prairie 12-4.
“We’re not going to win a lot of games if we play like that,” said USC head coach Pat Frank.
Fure also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs. Dustin Dylla went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Chad Roche added an RBI sacrifice fly.
The Rebels will play Saturday at their home tournament.
