Albert Lea boys’ track ties for first with Faribault

The Albert Lea boys’ track and field team tied with Faribault Tuesday for first place in Albert Lea.
Both teams scored 80 points and excelled in different portions of the meet. The Tigers performed well on the track while Faribault took advantage in the field events.
“It was a great meet,” said Albert Lea head coach Lisa Deyak. “I think what felt so good about was our team competed so well through out the meet.”
The Tigers won nine events.
Albert Lea’s 4×800-meter relay team of Lars Gjersvik, Jack Sturtz, Trevor Rasmussen and Matt Tiegs won while Ramsussen won the 800, Tiegs the 400 and Tommy Tiegs won the 100.
Kyle Kriewall won the long jump and the 200 while the 4×400 relay team of Kriewall, Gjersvik, Sean Laurie and Tiegs won as well.
Alik Smed won the high jump and Tyler Wichmann placed second with a personal best by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches. Bryce DeBoer won the shot put.
