David Godtland, 66

The memorial service for David Allan Godtland, 66, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before services at the church.
Surrounded by the love of his family, David died on Monday, May 24, 2010, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community, after a 14-month battle with cancer.
He was born on April 16, 1944, in Albert Lea, the son of Glenn and Eleanor (Spilde) Godtland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended Albert Lea Schools.
He was united in marriage to Georgia A. Runden on Aug. 10, 1968. Dave had worked at Ravenhorst Concrete and then at Bridon Cordage for 30 years before retiring in April of 2009.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Dave was passionate about golfing and was a member of Green Lea Golf Course. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching the Twins and the Vikings, and loved Albert Lea Tiger Sports, especially wrestling, and had recently been honored as their No. 1 fan.
The annual family trip “Up North” was one Dave always looked forward to. Spending time with his grandchildren and watching them in their activities was what Dave enjoyed most.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Georgia; children: Janelle (Buck) Rasmussen and their children Benjamin and Paige of Albert Lea; son, Kevin (Laura Burke) Godtland and their children: Caitlin, Elijah, and Logan of Lake Mills, Iowa, Jill (Josh) Harmdierks and children: Kyleigh and Noah of Albert Lea; brothers and sisters: Gloria (Clarence) Sveen of Winona, Barbara (Rodger) Baseman of Glenville, Sandra Abrego, Steven (Tracy) Godtland, James (Darla) Godtland all of Albert Lea, Karen (Craig) Crawford of Omaha, Neb., Lori Godtland of Albert Lea; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Judy (Dick) Stilley of Glenville, Paddy Hoium (Rolly Twito) and Larry (Debbie) Runden of Albert Lea, Mark (Sue) Runden of Hayward, Dawn Runden of Albert Lea, Jerry (Diane) Runden of Wheatridge, Colo., and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: E.R. Bud and Laura Runden; brother-in-law, Moses Abrego; niece, Kelly Abrego; and great-niece, Chelsie Huchko.
