Funeral services for Larry Jacobson Young, 71, of Alden, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate. Interment will be in Alden Cemetery with military honors accorded by area veterans organizations. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
Larry died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at his home.
Larry Jacobson Young was born on Aug. 4, 1938, to Lester and Laura (Jacobson) Young in Carlston Township in Freeborn County. He grew up in Alden and graduated from Alden High School. Larry served his country in the United States Army. On Nov. 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Violet Nimz at the United Lutheran Church in Frost. The couple resided in Alden and Larry was employed at Air Gas in sales and delivery. Larry was a member of United Methodist Church in Alden and the American Legion. He was a past commander of the Legion and also served on the board at Oakview Golf Course for several years. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, watching sports, golfing and having coffee with his friends.
Survivors include his wife Violet; daughter, Joleen Ford; sons: Daniel (Sue) Young and Alan Young; one grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; sisters: Karen (Bradley) Miller and Ramona Sather; nieces: Julie Sather and Kari (Jeff) Forslunds; and nephews: Mark Sather and Chad Miller.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Laura; brother, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Clifford Sather; and several aunts and uncles.
