NAHL still silent on Thunder

The Albert Lea Thunder last played on April 9 and no one knew if it was the franchise’s last game.

Nothing’s changed in almost a month and the North American Hockey League has yet to say anything on the matter.

The Tribune has placed several calls to NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld and all have gone unreturned.

Albert Lea head coach Chuck Linkenheld said he hasn’t heard one way or the other as well, but he expects a decision to be made this week.

“I think there will be some finality this week,” Linkenheld said. “They have to make a decision because we’re running out of time.”

Meanwhile Linkenheld has been left waiting to know if he still has a job.

Linkenheld said he’s been told the league has had some people apply to become owners, but didn’t qualify.

The league is holding its championship this week in Wenatchee, Wash. and Linkenheld said he expects the board of governors and the league to discuss the situation.

The NAHL draft begins May 26.
