Funeral services for Ryan Orlando Bakken, age 34, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Rolf Wangberg will officiate. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Ryan died on Saturday, May 22, 2010, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Ryan Orlando Bakken was born on Dec. 8, 1975, in Albert Lea, the son of Roger and Clarice (Reim) Bakken. He was a lifelong resident of Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1994. Ryan attended Austin Community College for two years. He had been employed as a machinist and was currently working for Reim Roofing. Ryan was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the Full Draw Archery Club. Ryan was an avid reader. He was very athletic and excelled in many sports, especially hockey and golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery. Most of all, Ryan enjoyed spending time with his son Owen. He was known for his infectious smile and his sense of humor. Ryan was a loving father, son, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by everyone he knew.
Survivors include his son Owen, of Albert Lea, parents Clarice and Roger Bakken of Albert Lea, brother Rick (Peggy) Bakken of Las Vegas, sister Roseann (Mike) Heavner of Cottage Grove, nieces and nephews Jonathon, Matthew, Clarissa, Garrett, and Natalie,; grandmother Lorraine Reim of Albert Lea; aunt Jan Doyle of Albert Lea; uncles Whitney (Kathy) Reim of Albert Lea and James (Lori) Bakken of Fremont, Neb.; and cousins Whitney Allen Reim, Penny Grangruth, Julie Yackley, and Philip Bakken.
Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents Johnny and Marie Bakken and Leo Reim, his aunt Janice Yackley, and his uncles Rodney and Charles Reim.
