With the expansion of the local Salvation Army’s Daily Bread meal program and the increased use of the Salvation Army food shelf, the organization is developing a community garden with the hope of producing fresh vegetables for distribution.

With the help of the Sentence to Serve workers and employees of the Salvation Army employees, 14 raised beds have been constructed and filled with dirt on the west side of the 302 Court St. location.

“All we need now is the community to wrap their arms around these gardens and give back in a new way,” Capt. Jim Brickson.

Many local businesses have pitched in with the gifts of plants, seeds and tools to create the garden; however, more plants and seeds are needed.

The Salvation Army is also looking for volunteers to help plant the garden.
