I support the new ban on texting while driving because it’s all common sense. It has been proven that more than half of all traffic fatalities are caused by using a cell phone. This new law forces people to be more cautious of what is distracting them while behind the wheel. Coming right behind drunken driving, texting and phone use is the second main reason for traffic fatalities.

As a teenager, I know how tempting it is to finish the texting conversation while on my way home. Knowing the danger involved, we all need to refrain from losing our concentration on what really matters, the road. Now realizing how technologically advanced our society has become, we need to enforce the “no texting while driving” law even more.

There’s no common sense in losing a life while a distracted driver is covering the wheel. If the text you need to send is that important, try pulling over and sending it. Better still, have your passenger send it for you. Please use better judgment and keep your cell phone away while driving, it’s not worth the risk.
