Viola A. Gavle, 93, of Emmons, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea, in Albert Lea.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church only. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Emmons.
Viola A. Gavle was born June 6, 1916, in rural Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Michael J. and Lolla (Helland) Schmidthuber, baptized on July 23, 1916, at Emmons Lutheran Church, where she remained a member all of her life. She attended school in Emmons and Lake Mills.
Viola married Truman E. Gavle on Dec. 18, 1933, in the parsonage at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. They lived in Emmons, Albert Lea and on the Gavle farm in Nunda Township. They had four children.
Viola enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards, and most of all, watching the Minnesota Twins on television. She was a member of Emmons Senior Citizens, the Martha Circle and Al Anon in Albert Lea.
She is survived by her children: Allan (Jan) Gavle, Pauline (Paul) Callahan, Tim (Mary Lou) Gavle, Lola (Forrest) Brown; grandchildren: Rita Gavle, Heidi Gavle, Jill (Jerry) Wright, Paul (Robin) Morrison, Matt (Teresa) Callahan, Angie (Todd) Sexe, Mitch (Laura) Callahan, Molly (Terry) Brooke, Mary (Wade) Johnson, Mike (Kellie) Gavle, Tony Gavle, Shari Gavle, Tony Wadding, Tracy (Laura) Wadding, Amy (J.D.) Mooney, Jason (Marcela) Brown, Michele (David) Olsen, Nikki (Dean) Roberts and several great- grandchildren; brothers, Leo Schmidthuber, Dale (Betty) Schmidthuber; and one sister, Doris Stamatelos; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers: Horace and Russell; and sisters: Gladys and Irene; grandsons: Ross Gavle and Jeff Brown; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Good Samaritan staff and also Crossroads Community Hospice for the wonderful care they all gave Viola.
