Waseca man killed after stolen SUV overturns in Steele Co.

A 22-year-old Waseca man was killed in the early morning hours Friday when the stolen vehicle he was driving left a roadway in rural Steele County and overturned.

According to Steele County Sheriff Don Gudmundson, Alexander Perry Berg was driving a stolen Isuzu SUV westbound on Steele County Road 12 in Deerfield Township, just west of County Road 62, when the vehicle left the road, hit a field drive, went airborne for approximately 120 feet and overturned, ejecting Berg from the vehicle.

A passing motorist called 911 at 4:51 a.m., and Steele County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Owatonna Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

Coroner’s Death Investigator Timothy Thomas pronounced Berg dead at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol will do an accident reconstruction of the scene.

Gudmundson said the 1999 Isuzu Rodeo was reported stolen by a citizen to Faribault Police at 7:30 a.m. Friday.
