Campus Notes: Rebecca Bagley travels to Guatemala for mission work

Rebecca Bagley of Albert Lea, a student at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, is spending part of her summer participating in a short-term mission experience. She is a member of the college’s Summer of Service team.

Bagley is serving in San Lucas, Guatemala, from May 26 to July 21 with CAM International. She is volunteering at The Oasis, a home and school for girls, many of who are from abusive backgrounds. A junior psychology major, she is the daughter of Lori and William Bagley.

SOS team members assist pastors, physicians, teachers and other missionaries in churches, hospitals, orphanages and refugee camps. They teach English, care of AIDS orphans, lead worship and perform construction with ministries such as Africa Inland Missions, the Luke Society and Pioneers.

Since 1981, Northwestern College’s SOS program has challenged, prepared and encouraged students to be effective Christian servants around the world. Team members raise their own funds.

Local students graduate from Northwestern College

Jennifer Bagley and Rachel Rietsema, both from Albert Lea, were awarded bachelor’s degrees from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, at commencement exercises May 8.

Bagley was awarded her bachelor of science in nursing.

Rietsema was awarded her bachelor of arts degree in journalism.

Brian Reindl awarded scholarship

Brian Reindl of Clarks Grove is the recipient of an excellence scholarship at Concordia College in Moorhead.

Reindl, a 2010 graduate of Albert Lea High School, is the son of Douglas and Darnell Reindl.

Tyler Haaland awarded scholarship

Tyler Haaland of Albert Lea has been awarded an incoming freshman scholarship for the 2010-11 school year at Bemidji State University.

He is a 2010 graduate of Albert Lea High School.

Local students on Concordia St. Paul’s dean’s list

The students listed below have been named to Concordia University, St. Paul’s dean’s list for the spring 2010 semester. Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are recognized for superior academic performance by being named to the dean’s list.

Included were: Emma Dahl, a senior majoring in marketing; and Derek Lavalier, a senior majoring in theology. Both are from Albert Lea.
