Funeral services for Helen Francis Schlede, 94, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Helen died Monday, June 28, 2010, at her home.
Helen Francis Schlede was born on June 7, 1916, to Frank and Ermyl (Field) Florian in Sand Hills, Neb. She graduated from Coffey High School in Coffey, Mo., in 1934. In 1935 she was united in marriage to Edward Schlede. The couple lived several locations traveling the Midwest system of the Rock Island Railroad where Edward worked as a lineman. They moved to Albert Lea in 1941 where they raised their son, Ed. Helen was a very active member of the First Baptist Church. She had served as a Cub Scout den mother and in later years she was the Sr. Citizens director for two years and then manager of Sr. Courts for a few years. Helen enjoyed the time she spent on the farm, she also enjoyed traveling and quilting.
Survivors include her son, Edward and wife Jean Schlede of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Randy (Angie) Schlede and children, Luke and Abby of Rosemount, Dustin Schlede and daughter Emma of Austin, Don (Dana) Warner and daughter Alice; and stepgrandchildren: Michael and Sheila all of Odessa, Fla., and Marie Staiger of Scotsdale, Ariz.; and one brother, William Florain (Marian) and children: Ellana and Eddie of Costa Rica.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edward, in 1977.
