Kiester Days, choir concert, barbecue planned

The Salvation Army will also have its first-ever disaster services drive-through barbecue on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to disaster services of the Salvation Army.

This is also the weekend for Kiester Days and Farming of Yesteryear’s horse show, swap meet and tractor pull. Schedules can be found on Page 6.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, June 25

The Ryan Heath and Linda Draper art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Pelican Breeze will hold a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Cost is $20 per person ($5 for children 5 years and younger). Guitarist David Courey will provide the music. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Call 383-2630.

The 2010 Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir, making its 41st annual tour, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. About 40 Lutheran young people, chosen through auditions from all over the state, will perform a variety of music, from classics to gospel. The concert is free and open to the public.

Saturday, June 26

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the corner of North Broadway Avenue and Water Street.

Bikes for Barker, a scholarship fundraiser, will start the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. A pancake breakfast will be served from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5 per person. Registration for a 100-mile motorcycle run starts at the fairgrounds at 10 a.m. and the ride leaves at noon. Cost is $20 per motorcycle. The ride ends at the Lanesboro City Park. There will also be bicycling for those interested. This starts at the head of the Root River Trail in Fountain and runs for 11 miles, and ending at Lanesboro City Park for a celebration. A shuttle will be available to bring riders back to the trail head. Registration is from 1 to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 per bicycling family. There will also be a raffle. Proceeds support students pursuing careers in chemical dependency counseling.

A fundraiser for the Glenville Beach will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. A grilled chicken supper with potato salad, french bread, beans and dessert will be served for $7.50 per person. A kids’ meal of hot dogs, potato salad, beans and dessert, will be available for $3 per person.

The Corey Goodnature Memorial Scholarship Golf Classic will be held at Green Lea Golf Course. The tournament is full, but the public is welcome to attend dinner at 6:30 p.m. along with a silent auction.

A brat and burger feed to help raise money to replace the Dress (Monkey) Island bridge will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost is $8 per person.

Sunday, June 27

American Legion Post 56 will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served.

Bergdale Harley-Davidson will host a live eagle from the National Eagle Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. People are welcome to get their photos taken with the eagle. Free carnival treats will be served.
