Albert Lea/Austin National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 469 met for their regular meeting June 8 at the Pizza Ranch in Albert Lea. The main order of business was reports from the delegates who had attended the Minnesota State NARFE Convention which was held recently in Rochester.
The theme for the convention was: Your Health, Your Money, Your Life which was appropriate since the convention was in a city noted for its hospitals and healing. NARFE Chapter 469 was represented by four delegates: Jon Green, Mary Lee Thompson and Peg and Ron Seath. The first speakers told of the early days when the Mayo family first started their practice and then told about the present work going on. Other speakers told of the health plans for retirees. There are many difficult choices to make. In other business delegates voted to approve a national dues increase. The dues increase will be vital if NARFE concerns are to be heard.
At the chapter meeting at Albert Lea members heard another report. NARFE member Fred Schaub was a World War II veteran who went on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.. He had high praise for those who organized it and greatly enjoyed the trip.
The next meeting will be in Austin on Aug. 10.
