LAKE MILLS, IOWA— The Lake Mills softball teams entered Wednesday on a two-game winning streak and looked to continue their recent success against Osage.

Osage scored four runs in the fourth inning and held the Bulldog offense in check to defeat Lake Mills 8-5 Wednesday in Lake Mills.

“I think Lake Mills took to long to get started,” Lake Mills head coach Wade Fridley said. “I’m not really sure how to explain it to you. One team showed up to play softball and the other team was back on their heels.”

Osage took advantage of numerous Bulldog mistakes early on.

The Green Devils’ scored their first run on a wild pitch in the first inning and scored two runs in the third inning on miscues by Lake Mill to take a 3-0 lead.

Osage then went on to put four runs on the board in the fifth inning courtesy of a Jessica Rogers RBI double to open a 7-0 lead after five innings.

“Osage was consistent. They batted consistently and fielded consistently.” Fridley said.

Despite inconsistent play, the Bulldogs were able to crawl back in the later stages of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lake Mill’s Brook Groe, Jurnee Pena and Randi Dilly all had RBIs to cut the lead to 7-4.

Although, the Bulldogs offense showed up too late as Osage scored one run in the eighth and held on for the 8-5 win.

Hayley Penfold earned the win for Osage as she went seven innings and allowed five runs.

Josie Brackey took the loss for the Bulldogs as she went seven innings and struck out 15 batters on the night.

” I think she pitches better under pressure,” Fridley said of Brackey. “I’ve seen Josie Brackey pitch best when were bases-loaded, two outs and she just takes people down.”

With the loss, Lake Mills now drops to 4-5 on the year and 2-3 in the North Iowa conference.

Lake Mills is back in action on Thursday at W-CL-T.
