Funeral services for Paul Duaine Folie, 77, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be in the East Freeborn Cemetery with military honors accorded by area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview.
Paul died on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Paul Duaine Folie was born on Dec. 10, 1932, in Albert Lea, the son of Mervel and Theresa (Jacobson) Folie. He grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School. Following school, Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1953-57. He was an aircraft technician, stationed in Massachusetts. On April 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Katherine Vavra at the Blooming Prairie Methodist Church. After his military service Paul went to work for creameries in Clarks Grove and Red Oak Grove. He managed the creameries in Ellendale, Montgomery, and Blooming Prairie. Later, Paul worked as a heating and air conditioning engineer at Land O’Lakes, retiring in the early 1980s. Paul was a member of the Elks Lodge in Owatonna. He enjoyed reading history books, doing lawn work, keeping up his home, playing cards, travel with his wife Kathy, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine; children: Marsha and husband Bruce Madson, Duaine and wife Amanda Folie, and Steve Folie; grandchildren: Lukas and Lance Madson and Sierra and Megan Folie; brothers: Mervel Folie Jr. and wife Beverly and David Folie; sisters: Marge and husband Jerry Wendelboe and Dorothy Callahan and special friend Earl DeRaad; sister-in-law, Pauline Folie; brother-in-law, Hank Dohlman; nieces and nephews; and his pet cat, Charlie.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Lyle and John Folie, sisters: Betty Dohlman and Barbara Folie; and by sister-in-law, Ruth Folie.
