A 42-year-old Georgia man was charged last week in Kossuth County District Court in Iowa for possessing guns that were stolen from a residence southwest of Clarks Grove a few days prior.

Mark Allen Fridolfson, 42, of Kingsland, Ga., was arrested on Memorial Day in Algona, Iowa, for careless driving, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and giving false information to police. Algona police reportedly stopped Fridolfson, who was driving a 1999 black Ford Mustang, on U.S. Highway 169 for squealing his tires.

During the stop, police found a stolen .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle in his car. The guns were reportedly stolen from a home at 73950 270th St., Albert Lea.

According to Freeborn County sheriff’s deputy Corey Farris, the homeowner reported the burglary May 27. The two guns and about $40 cash were reported missing.

Farris said in addition to the charges in Kossuth County of possession of stolen property, careless driving, intoxicated driving and giving false information to police, Fridolfson is expected to be charged in Freeborn County District Court with second-degree burglary.

The man has previously been convicted of operating while intoxicated.
