U-17 boys’ soccer team continues to roll

The Albert Lea boys’ U-17 soccer team improved their season record to 4-0 with a pair of road wins during the last couple of weeks.

On May 26 the locals traveled to Waseca and posted a 2-1 victory. Jose Campos started the scoring for Albert Lea with a goal late in the first half. Cal Pirsig rounded out the scoring for the boys with a penalty kick conversion in the 2nd half.

Keeper Cameron Hove recorded the win with help on the defensive end from Anthony Tate, Kyle Larsen, Spencer Overgaard, Jonathan Koenigs and Logan Tufte.

Albert Lea saw strong midfield play from Tyler Osmondson, Steven Kreun and Brandon Ranum.

On Wednesday, Albert Lea turned in a solid 5-0 victory in New Prague.

Tom Furland recorded the shut-out in goal. Campos and Pirsig each notched two goals with Mendez picking up the final tally. Carlton Stripe, Chad Maier, Kreun and others also put themselves in great scoring position but just missed on their chances.

Albert Lea is back in action next week with three games. The teams play an important home and home series against an Owatonna team that is also undefeated. Monday night’s home game at Memorial field starts at 7 pm. Tuesday, Albert Lea is at Owatonna and then finishes the week with a home game on Wednesday against Fairmont.
