Volunteers are needed to help with the third annual April Sorensen Memorial half marathon and relay on July 10.

Organizer Holly Larson, Sorensen’s sister, said volunteers are needed to help with registration, set up, at all stations and cleanup.

“Just to even come out and cheer people on would be great,” Larson said.

Volunteers are needed July 8 and 9 for registration and shirt distributing. On the day of the race, volunteers are needed for registration and to help at aid and water stations along the route.

People can get the form to sign up at www.livelaughloverun.com, and then send it to Larson. All volunteers then would need to attend the mandatory meeting on June 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. At the meeting, volunteers will find out where they are working and at what time.

The race starts at 8 a.m. and usually lasts about 3 hours. After the race cleanup only takes about an hour, so it’s usually just a four-hour commitment to help.

The 13.1-mile race starts near the Country Inn & Suites hotel on East Main Street in Albert Lea and ends in Hayward. People can run the entire half marathon or run relay-style with a partner. Runners can sign up anytime at www.livelaughloverun.com or the day of the race.

The half marathon is in memory of April Sorensen, who was murdered in her home in Rochester on April 17, 2007, at the age of 27. Her killing remains unsolved. Her family organizes the marathon.
