A.L. man injured in Owatonna car crash

An Albert Lea man was injured in a collision Sunday on Interstate 35 near Owatonna.

Tyler J. Distad, 20, is listed in critical condition as the result of a four-vehicle collision near the Bridge Street exit on I-35 in Owatonna at 5:25 p.m.

According to a report from the Rochester district of the Minnesota State Patrol, the Distad’s 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix had stopped for traffic because of road construction. His southbound automobile was rear-ended by a 2001 Ford pickup driven by 26-year-old Chase Thies and went into the northbound lane and collided with two other cars, a Hyundai driven by Manuel Joao, 26, and a Ford 500 driven by Jolene Goeden-Massuch, 57, of Watertown, Wis.

The report added that Distad was the only person injured. He was transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

It did not give the cities in which Thies and Joao reside. Assisting the State Patrol was the Owatonna Police Department and the Steele County Sheriff’s Office.

4 die in car-semi collision

FAIRMONT (AP) — Authorities are releasing the names of four young men who were killed when a car and semitrailer collided on a back road in Martin County.

They are the car’s driver, 23-year-old Terrance John Tierney of Odin, and three men from St. James, 21-year-old Luis Alberto Martinez Jr., 23-year-old Jose Teodor Cardoza and 24-year-old Joshua Robert Adams.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports they all died just before 6 a.m. Saturday at the scene of the crash just north of the small town of Welcome.

A fifth person in the car is in critical condition at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The semi driver was treated and released.

Authorities say the car driven by Tierney slammed into the semi at the intersection of a gravel road. None of deceased were wearing seatbelts.
