Cleone Clarice Svenningsen, age 92, formerly of Alden, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, where she had resided for the past 2 1/2 years. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 26, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alden. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Cleone C. Svenningsen was born Nov. 19, 1917, the daughter of Guy and Delia (Hopfe) Geesman in Hartley, Iowa. Cleone married James Hunnicutt on July 31, 1938. They were married 42 years and resided in Alden. She worked for many years on Main Street at Theobald’s Grocery, Helland’s Grocery and Ebert Hardware. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alden. On Aug. 28, 1985, she married Harvey (Hop) Svenningsen. Cleone enjoyed time spent with family and her grandchildren. She made many quilts and embroidered dish towels.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband Wally Hoyt of Elysian, son, Dennis and wife Vicki Hunnicutt of Cross Lake; five grandchildren: Gregg Hoyt, Troy (wife Darcy) Hoyt, Shelly Hoyt (husband Garth Edwards), Matthew (wife Ann) Hunnicutt, and Sarah Hunnicutt (husband Kurt Rolf); nine great-grandchildren and twin great-great-grandsons; one sister-in-law: Barb Geesman; one brother-in-law: Floyd Hinkley and many nieces and nephews.
Cleone was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James Hunnicutt and Harvey Svenningsen, brother, Bill Geesman and sister, Doris Hinkley.
