The funeral service for Gudelia Mary Gasca of Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church. A prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service.
Gudelia (Judy) died Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center. She was 87 years old.
Judy was born Jan. 3, 1923, at Miami, Ariz., to Juan and Emilia (Contreras) Galvan. She moved to Albert Lea at the age of 6 years with her family. Judy married Lupe Gasca on Sept. 14, 1946, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. She worked as a cook for St. Theodore and St. Mary’s Catholic Schools and also at Thorne Crest Retirement Community until she retired. Judy enjoyed walking until cancer took its toll. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. Judy enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. She loved joking and laughing with others. Judy liked going to salad luncheons, music and dancing. She also played the guitar. Judy especially enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband, Lupe Gasca, of Albert Lea; daughters: Roxann (Robert) Stoker of Ames, Iowa, and Jacquelyn Jo Draayer of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Shawn Avelar of Riesel, Texas, Shanann Avelar of Mesa, Ariz., Taylor Draayer of Albert Lea, Lauren Draayer of Albert Lea and Christopher Stoker of Ames, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Vanesa, Rachel and Jordon Avelar of Riesel, Texas; sisters: Zoila (Reuben) Calderon of Albert Lea, Rosie (Dennis) Olson of Albert Lea and Diane Minear of Glenville.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents: Juan and Emilia Galvan; daughter, Judy Ann in infancy; brother, John Galvan; sisters: Oralia Cuellar and Anita Mickelson; and brothers-in-law: Jerome Mickelson and Dr. Loren Minear.
