Peek at the Past

Here are highlights in history for July 12, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — A map on the first page of this issue of the Tribune showed the 30 wetlands and lakes in Freeborn County that were protected from any further drainage or alterations.

1981 — The Project of the Week in the Tribune featured a teeter-totter, plus a combination sandbox-wading pool. Plans could be obtained from a firm in Van Nuys. Calif.

1961 — Eldon Wettlaufer, a member of the Albert Lea Fire Department for 10 years, became the new chief.
