USC Legion baseball to state

WELLS — The United South Central Legion baseball team beat Redwood Falls 5-1 Saturday, advancing to the state tournament for the first time in 53 years.

The team was led by Dustin Dylla and Anothony Stenzel who each had two hits and William Huper who had two RBIs on sacrafice flys.

A.J. Dreyer, Alex Groud and Nick Fure also recorded hits.

“The kids are playing good ball right now,” USC coach Pat Frank said. “I think everybody in all the communities are excited.”

Nick Fure pitched for USC, giving up an unearned run on five hits while striking out seven in seven innings.

Fure went 2-0 in the four game District 2 tournament and picked up a save.

USC will play state tournament host Dilworth at 6:30 Friday. The team is guaranteed two games in the eight team double elimination tournament.
