The races this week were sponsored by JD Auto Body & Custom Golf Carts of Albert Lea. Tonight was also the Box Car Nationals for the kids, which was held at intermission. The Misgen Auto Parts Pure Stocks had a wild main event. Only seven of the 16 cars that started the race were around at the checkered flag. There was a hard crash on the fronststretch on lap four that required a red flag.

Randy Rauen took a couple of vicious shots while he got spun just before the flagstand. Rauen was shaken up and required some attention from the Gold Cross ambulance staff. Fortunately Rauen was able to get out a walk to the ambulance under his own power.

Dan Klingus led the proceedings early on with Jason Newkirk close behind. Newkirk challenged on lap six and then passed Klingfus for the lead in turn four to complete lap seven. Another red flag came out on lap eight as Keith Weber’s car caught fire. Weber was uninjured and the flames were quickly extinguished.

Newkirk led the rest of the way to win his third of the season and hold on to the points lead. Dylan Nelson got by Klingfus on the final lap to take second. Stacy Krohberg was fourth, and Jacob Stark was fifth.

Tony Shaner took the lead at the green in the RS Auto Rebuilders WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Tyler Peterson and A.J. Zvorak were close behind, and Zvorak zipped past for second.

Zvorak quickly challenged Shaner for the point and they were side-by-side on lap three. Zvorak made the pass in turn four and stole the lead. Ryan Goergen and Mike Blowers raced for fourth and were close to Peterson.

All three made contact in turn four, and Goergen spun and that brought out the caution. Blowers was ruled to be at fault for the yellow and was sent pitside. On the start, the yellow came back out when Jason Barber lost his rear bumper.

From there it was all Zvorak, when he led the rest of the laps for his fifth feature triumph. Shaner finished a solid second, and Dan Holland had a late race charge for third. Goergen ended up fourth, and Peterson was fifth.

The Farm Boy BBQ WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled on to the track next for their 20-lap feature. Beau Lammers took the lead at the green followed by Larry Nelson and Jerry Young. Billy Steinberg spun in turn one and a big melee ensued. Six cars were involved with a couple being eliminated.

Greg Pfeifer Jr. got a tremendous restart a vaulted to third getting by Nelson and Alan Mondus. Brandon Davis cracked the top five on lap three, while back up front Young was pressuring Lammers for the lead.

On lap six, Lammers and Young got close, and Young’s car suddenly shot up the track and made hard contact with the wall and out came the yellow. Things got interesting on the restart as this time Mondus got going.

Mondus bolted to second in the high groove and quickly drove to the outside of Lammers. Mondus flew to the lead on lap seven and started to pull away. Meanwhile, Davis now challenged Pfeifer Jr. for third. After a spirited battle, Davis snagged the spot, but it did not last long.

On lap 10, Davis’ arm came out the window and his car suddenly slowed and exited the track. Shortly after that, Cody Gardner and Billy Steinberg tangled and the final caution of the race came out.

Mondus took off and led the rest of the way for his first win of 2010. Lammers had a great run in second with Pfeifer Jr. again in the top five. Adam Stowell and Nelson finished out the top five. Only eight of the original 17 starters finished.

A good field of 11 Power 96/KQAQ 970AM IMCA Stock Cars took off for their final time to collect track points this season. David Moriarty took the lead with Matt Speckman in second.

Damon Murty stormed to third from the sixth spot and wasted no time challenging the leaders. Murty performed a masterful move when he split Speckman and Moriarty to scream to the lead on lap three.

Murty pulled away from there for his second win at the speedway. The race behind him was very good for the entire race. Jake Ludeking raced from the tenth spot to finish second ahead of Dan Mackenthun. Chris Adams finished fourth and collected the track championship. Steve Meyer finished fifth in his first appearance of the season.

For a while it looked like Todd Scharkey would dominate the French’s Repair and Fabrication USRA Modified feauture. Scharkey took the lead of the initial start, but James Parker spun in turn three and collected over half the field in the incident.

This Friday, Aug. 27, will be the reschedule date for the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series. Also racing will be the USRA Modifieds, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks. It will be the final night for track points in the Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds.
