Borderfest celebration has events for all ages and interests

EMMONS — The 10th-annual Borderfest celebration will entertain crowds in Emmons on Friday and Saturday. Some of the big events include the Johnny Holm Band playing a street dance Friday night starting at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

For those looking for free entertainment on Saturday the rock band Bad Monkey will be playing a street dance starting at 8:30 p.m. For rain plans Borderfest organizers ask people to listen to KQPR Power 96 if there is adverse weather.

Other free entertainment includes country music by Dunnel Lenort downtown from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Another big Saturday event is the mud bog at Gateway Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the bog starts at noon. There will be cash prizes given to winners.

Also on Saturday is the car and motorcycle fun cruise. Everyone will meet and leave from the old Emmons school. Pre-registration starts at 5:30 p.m., the cruise starts at 6 p.m. and will be done by 7:30 p.m. All makes and models are welcome.

New this year is a golf tournament on Saturday. It’s a fundraiser for the State Line Lake restoration project. Call 507-297-5800 for more information. Also new this year is the time of the parade. The parade will be Saturday, instead of Friday like previous years, at 4 p.m. There’s no entry fee, and those interested should call 507-383-1234.

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday there will be a kids’ pedal pull downtown sponsored by the Winnebago Cooperative Telephone Association.

On Saturday night there will be a grilled-pork-chop supper at the Emmons Legion from 4:30 to 7 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for Gateway Park Improvement projects including new restrooms and playground equipment. The supper is sponsored by the Emmons Commercial Club, Emmons Area Development Group and Emmons Sons of the American Legion. Adults $10 and children $6. Menu includes grilled pork chops, beans, potato salad, coleslaw, rolls, lemonade and coffee. A bake sale will be held Saturday morning at the Emmons Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds go to improvements and programs at the senior center.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there will be a softball tournament at Gateway Park. Contact Paul for information at 507-383-1477. There will also be citywide garage sales all weekend. Locations will be listed at City Hall, Lair’s 66 and the American Legion.
